Hello there, have been trying to figure out what my next 3d printer should end up being. I had some demands, and as far as I can see, this build i found only a few days ago, nails them all. so here is my plan, and a few questions, I hope you people has a view on.
(we are 2 persons building together 2 Eclipse3d's)
it is going to have a higher build hight. 300mm we plan on using a ramps board, for saving money, and it is a product that can be replaced, if we are wrong. it is going to be enclosed with plexiglass. also boxed on top. we plan on using the new E3d Titan extruder. and later on, 2 of them, for dual color print. (i hate bowden lol)
we have used the last few days, to try and source the parts cheaply :-) and we just decided that the pricetag now, seems fair (we plan on ending up, paying around 720$.) (fair, as in what we can afford)
now the questions :-) ramps, how does it work for others? has anyone else thought of using the Titan, with a small pancake nema17?
and. is this clasified as: H-bot? CoreXY? or? sorry, am having a hard time finding out, would call it a coreH-BOTXY, if asked, so need to know ;-)

Hey, I'm glad to hear you're interested in building my design! To answer your questions:
-Expanding to 300mm build height should be no problem at all, just make sure you get longer extrusions, lead screw, and rods to accommodate. -Ramps 1.4 should work fine, you just will need to configure the firmware on your own or get it from someone else here who uses the same setup, as it will run a different firmware than what I provide. -Enclosing it should be fairly easy, that's why I made the design using corner extrusions with tapped holes. You could also get all 4-slot extrusions and just bolt the plexi straight to that. It wouldn't look as pretty but it would work! -You should be able to use the e3d titan with fairly minimal modifications to the extruder body. My only concern would be that the titan mounts the e3d hot end a lot further to the right than my extruder, so you may need to move the mounting holes or something along those lines, but it shouldn't be too difficult to get working! Using 2 of them may be a bit more challenging without losing x build area but it definitely can be done! -The printer is a CoreXY printer! Basically the difference between hbot and corexy is that corexy has 2 seperate belt lengths which cross over each other at a point and all 4 ends attach to the carriage, resulting in a belt system that keeps the y gantry rigid and perpendicular to the x axis. With an hbot setup, there is only one long belt and it is less constrained, so it does not hold the y gantry rigidly and can result in print quality issues.
Let me know if you have any further questions! -Andrew

Hello Andrew, thanks for your fast reply, I can promise you, questions (and pictures) will follow :-) will start the ordering soon, need to redesign a little on the bed plate, due to parts here being slightly different, but will start ordering this week :-)

I've actually installed the titan extruder on my eclipse and boy is it a wonder. I haven't uploaded the gantry to the forum yet since I'm working out the kinks and am in the middle of a move to a new apartment. But it can be done and it works great.

RAMPS is working fine for me, and I can send you my configuration.h when you are ready. You'll probably need to tweak it a little for the specific thermistors etc. It didn't take much effort to get it working.

So I just checked out this extruder and man, does this sound sweet! I just placed my order! I am already getting some amazing great quality out of my Eclips3d but this might just be what the Dr. ordered to put it over the top LOL.

Yes I saw that a while back, I think it's genius to use the pancake stepper. Less weight is always a good thing.

Are you using the Short Body Nema 17 Bipolar Step Motor?

Here is my configuration.h, from Marlin 1.0.2-1. You should read and check it before using it. A few things to note: - I don't use the standard E3D thermistor or bed thermistor, so you might need to change the thermistor types. - I haven't played much with the acceleration values. - on the RAMPS board, make sure to plug in the endstop for Z min, Y max and X min. - check the instructables guide if your motors move the wrong way. My motors are connected Z, left, right looking at the RAMPS board with the power connector on the right, and the cables have the red wire on the left for Z and left, and yellow on the left for the right motor. Hope this helps. Attachments:Configuration.h (36.96 KB)

Are you using the Short Body Nema 17 Bipolar Step Motor? No, Just the stock stepper from the original build.
