Hi, After a couple of months of researching and making designs for a CoreXY printer I came across the Eclipse3D. I immediately dropped my work in progress and ordered the Kit. This printer has everything I wanted to put into my own design. Andrew you have done a very good job with this design and really appreciate the time you put into explaining this printer on your Youtube and here in the forum. You don't see this kind of support very often. This week I will receive my Eclipse 3D kit, except for the shafts, but before I order the other parts I have some questions regarding some ideas. Hope you out there could shed some light if this will be upgrades, downgrades ;-( or just not worth the hassle. - The 10mm shaft for the Z Axis in the bom is PSFCJ10-360, but this is Electroless Nickel Plated and according to Misumi only for oil free bushings and not ball bearings. I therefore replace them with the PSFJ10-360 which do not have this plating. Has anyone had bad experience with the plating being damaged when using the PSFCJ10-360?
- Steppermotors 0.9 or 1.8 steps? The E3D Bigbox uses 0.9 46Ncm steppers. More than say 1/8 microstepping will not give you more resolution with 5% accurate steppers. So 0.9 steppers at 1/8 microsteps will give you a clean 1/16. Anything higher is good to keep the noise down an limit vibrations. Will 46Ncm be enough? I will use a 24v power supply.
- Place the XY (Z) steppers outside the mainframe. I want to fully enclose the build area and having steppers in a room around 50/60 degrees Celsius doesn't sound good to me. I will add some extra extrusion on the back and put all electronics and fans for cooling in here. The XY steppers will than just go to the opposite side of the profile.
- Thinking about using a RADDS board if I decide to go with 0.9 steppers. Anyone good experiences with this board? @3dprintedlife aka Andrew, you switched from 32 bit back to 8 bit with the Geetech? Good choice or not?
- Still wondering if I want to make a bigger build volume. 25x25cm sounds tempting, but will I really use it? The extra space could come in handy when adding a second extruder in the future. The Bigbox has a variable 300x200 cm heated bed with glass surface. Or is a Keenovo silicone bed with 6mm alu top plate better? Above 25cm I will have to add extra shafts and leadscrew for the Z-axe and add some support to the Z plate.
Hope someone can help me keep my mind on the right track.

Hey, well I'm very glad you found my printer!! To answer your concerns and questions
-Hardened shafts are recommended but are not necessarily required. The shafts I sell on the site are hardened to be safe, but I have used plated standard rods for a long time on one of my older printers and never noticed any grooves worn in from the linear bearings, but results may vary of course!
-0.9 Steppers are better for precision but worse for speed, and yes they are better than just increasing microstepping! 46N*M should be enough! And the only thing is they wont reduce vibrations the same way microstepping does, it will instead just double the frequency of the vibrations which may or may not be better! Microstepping actually creates smoother steps which is why it reduces noise.
-Sure you could place the steppers outside, I don't see any problems with that as long as you keep the motors in line with the belt!
-I regret going back to an 8bit board and I'm actually in the process of converting the Eclips3D2 to run on the Azteeg Mini V3. In general it wasn't terrible (although my board has a mind of it's own and went crazy), but for a high quality printer I would definitely recommend a high quality board.
-You can expand volume to an extent, but due to the nature of linear rods and the linear bushings I would be careful, the design wasn't really made to be expanded so I can't guarantee anything. On the other hand, expanding the build height should be very easy with no major side effects until you get well over 300mm Z height!

I can confirm enlarging the eclipse to 300mm cubed and it works perfect. But making z-height bigger is the easiest one to do.

Going safe with 1.8 steppers. Can later always test 0.9. Build area will be 250 mm.
All is ordered so waiting for arrival. So in a couple of weeks I will have first meltdown.
