SO I know this is long overdue, but here are my current plans for the Eclips3D2...
As many of you know, I did open sales a few months back. Unfortunately, I had to cancel sales due to a lack in demand. I believe the price was too high and many people weren't comfortable paying that much out of pocket for a 3D printer from an individual, not a big company. While I can assure everyone (and anyone who has purchased a printer from me can attest) that I offer the highest customer service, I completely understand that still being a reservation.
So, from this I have learned a few things. First of all, I have been working to reduce the price. Right now I am down to $1150 all costs included, and I am hoping to get down to $1100 without making any noticeable changes to the printer. While it is only $150 cheaper, that is still certainly not negligible and hopefully that will help push some people towards my printer!
Next, I won't be selling the printer in a full "barebones" kit. Not only does that create a lot more risk on my end, but I'm guessing it adds more risk on the consumers end as well, as they have to invest the full amount into the 3D printer right away. Instead, I plan on selling it in kits, like V1.1. This way, the customer only has to put down about half that ($600) in ordering from me. They will receive all the custom parts, as well as anything that is hugely beneficial to buy in bulk. What remains will be from only a select few online retailers, and as last time I will make it as easy as possible to order these parts. This will also allow me to ship internationally more easily and more cheaply, as the package will weigh significantly less by selling it in this method!
In addition to selling this kit mentioned above, I will also sell 2 additional kits. One will be a machined parts only kit, and should cost around $275 with shipping included. The next will be a kit for the side panels and will cost $50 (shipping $15 extra, unless your purchase is above $100 then it will be free shipping as always!). These custom kits will allow the extreme hobbyists to purchase the parts they otherwise would have no way of obtaining (or at least, obtaining cheaply).
Finally, you probably want a timeline. Well, I can't make any guarantees at the moment. I am still finalizing V2.1. I hope to order the new machined parts for the redesigned gantry this weekend, and once those changes are implemented and approved, I should be able to start preparing for pre-orders. A sign-up page has gone up once again on the website, www.eclips3d.com/store/c3/Eclips3D2_Printer_Kits.html
My best estimate would be to open pre-orders in early June, leave them open for about a month, then begin fulfilling orders. If for some reason there still is no demand, I will cancel sales and refund all purchases. However, it does seem there is still a decent amount of demand for this printer, so hopefully the price reductions, feature improvements, and different sale style are what you guys have been looking for! If you guys have any suggestions regarding the printer revision or sales method, let me know. I'm all ears!
