Hey,
i'm just trying to source somewhere in the uk to cnc your design, but have a question. the holes such as the top plate, are they Threaded Holes? its just one of the options I get when im on the manufacture sites.

Any of the holes that are ~2.5mm are M3x0.5mm tapped, holes ~3.4mm are M4x0.7 tapped, and holes ~4.3mm are M5x0.8 tapped.
Any holes that are a whole number or slightly over (3mm, 3.1mm, etc.) are through holes.
Also, keep in mind that many of the holes on the top plate are not meant to be drilled through. Inspect the step file carefully and have your machinist inspect it as well. The part looks much better when those top holes are only drilled to a depth of 5mm instead of all the way through!

I take it converting to dxf file format is really for single face items? such as the top plate is no good

ouch!, did they do a break down? that might help identify if there are any parts of the processing which are disproportionately expensive. I'm based in the UK and might be able to suggest some fabricators to try if the other quotes you're waiting on are still high.

I have had a couple more, but still around £860 - $1076, the main problem is its just one order. The price reduces substantially with x-amount. if you can suggest any fabricators who could do cheaper that would be great. it's so frustrating i really wanted to build this, but wanted the option to spread the cost of building it over a few months.

I'm still looking into doing a bulk order of machined parts and selling those, I seem to have enough people interested if I can keep the price below $300 max. If you're willing to wait a few weeks that may be your best bet (but no guarantee just yet!)

you can put me down for a set, i don't think I will get reasonable price by myself. its a great opensource design with top quality features, but not realistic to build unless you have some bargaining power on bulk buy.

That's an awesome deal! Would you mind sharing the machine shop which is making the parts for you as well as what you think of the company after they deliver. As my plans are still on hold, it would definitely be helpful to be able to provide some more alternatives to get the parts machined for all those across the pond.

Sure, but will be more cost. He is doing it as cash in hand for me because its a personal project. one problem which not sure of the impact is he sent the following
Is it going to cause you a big problem if the thicknesses are rounded up to metric. I am having trouble fining companies that hold imperial plate in stock so they are rounding to the nearest metric equivalent.
So will be 10mm 6mm 3mm 1.5mm

Hi 3DprintedLife, this is just a matter of aesthetic and beautiful finish? Non structural or rigidity of the structure?
Thanks Alessandro

Well yes and no. If you don't want to get tapped holes, you will need to have all of the holes drilled out larger and all the way through the plate. For example, the 2.5mm holes will need to become 3.1mm, the 3.4 to 4.1, etc. And all are through holes.
