What if anything should I lubricate the smooth rods with?
I have SuperLube Synthetic Grease (PTFE) that I have used on another printer...

Is it recommend that we be using some sort of lubrication with the linear bushings?

The bushings should be self lubricating, however this isn't always enough since 3D printers movement can be rather sporadic and doesn't cover the full length of the motion on a regular basis. Any kind of light oil or grease should be fine to help it along. This should also help to reduce wear on the bushings since the self lubrication comes from the bushings wearing a bit.

I think that It might also be a good idea to leave them dry for a bit so that they have a chance to "break in". I still have not added any lubrication to mine and it seems to be getting smoother as time goes by.
